Monitoring students' progress is an important step in the Esperanza curriculum. Let's take a closer look at the Progress Monitoring Exams.

Updated over a year ago

The Esperanza curriculum has 14 Progress Monitoring Exams (IMP). One exam is the be administered after every 10th lesson.

Each exam is split up into three to four target areas to make them easier to administer and score.

Where Can I Find the IMPs?

In the Activity Library, just filter by the exam you need to administer. You'll see each part of the exam laid out in the appropriate order, just add them to your playlist!

For a list of exam activities & ID Numbers and the passing criteria for each exam, open the Resources tab and look for:

What Do the IMPs Measure?

The IMPs measure progress in the following areas:

  1. Letter and Sound Knowledge: As the student reads the letter or sound, you keep track of which ones they named or said correctly.

  2. Rhyme Identification or Production: You read the words in gray, which the student cannot see, and they indicate if the words rhyme or not.

  3. Syllable counting: You read the word and the student identifies how many syllables are in the word.

  4. Reading at word, sentence, and paragraph level: As the student reads, you mark the incorrect responses.

  5. Spelling: The students spell the words out on the whiteboard for you to assess.

  6. Prefix-Root-Suffix: Depending on the exam, the student uses the whiteboard to identify prefix, root, or suffix.

  7. Reading Fluency: Fluency is targeted during the reading tasks. Fluency measurements include: Words correct per minute, percent of words read correctly.

  8. Comprehension of Text: Comprehension questions regarding the paragraph read are included in the instructions for you to ask.
